What do mushrooms have to do with networking?

In this excerpt from a longer interview about his career journey, Daniel Santos talks about how his fascination with mushroom ecosystems relates to his approach to networking.

He also shares another really useful perspective that helped him learn to enjoy networking.

Speaking of networking, I met Daniel on LinkedIn a few years ago because I noticed his LinkedIn headline at the time said something like “I love networking”.

I wanted to find out how Daniel approached networking, so I could share it with my clients who had a real fear of reaching out to people or thought it was synonymous with being manipulative and using people.

Note: This “how we met” story is a great example of why you want to create a LinkedIn profile that doesn’t just attract potential employers, but also gives people a sense of why it would be interesting to connect with you and/or give you some of their time in an informational interview.

Daniel shared something about who he is—a guy who loves networking—that is both uncommon and fascinating.

When Daniel and I met, I was so impressed with what he had to say about his approach to networking, I shot a short video of him describing his mindset.

Three years later, I asked him if he would share with me his career journey, and the video you are about to watch is from that video.

I will also be sharing another excerpt soon about what Daniel does to be a true Value Provider to his employers.

Developing that mindset and knowing how to execute on it is one of THE most important things you can do to grow—and recession-proof—your career.

So stay tuned for that.

For now though, let’s find out what Daniel has to say about taking the awkwardness out of networking and actually enjoying it.
