Confidence and belief in yourself is SO important in a job search.
It can be hard, though, especially if they have taken a hit due to being laid off or fired.
It doesn’t just feel bad though.
It impacts your ability to get your next job.
First, they profoundly affect your willingness to reach out to others and ask for help and recommendations.
Second, they obviously play a HUGE role in how you come across in interviews.
They also unconsciously affect whether you do the behind-the-scenes tasks of a successful job search, like:
- Upgrading your resume and LinkedIn profile
- Developing a clear branding message about how you provide value
You confidence and belief in yourself are shaped by how you see yourself–by your Identity.
In this video, you’ll hear a fun–and hopefully encouraging–story from Tom Bilyeu, a super successful business man and founder of the Impact Theory podcast (one of my favorites) about the impact of Identity.
The story is about–of all people–Batman, and how he forgot who he was and what happened when he updated his Identity.
Even though it’s a story about a comic book hero, the psychological underpinnings are very relevant and have huge implications for the success of your job search.
After watching the short clip, I share two practices for updating and upgrading your identity.
Finally, here’s the “How to Identify Your Strengths and Transferable Skills” post I referred to in the video that outlines several practices that help you “Own Your Awesome.”
