If you’re feeling like the dog in the picture, what should you do about it?

Here are some questions to ask:

1.      What specifically am I not happy with…is it the work or this particular work environment and manager?

2.      Have I been doing work that is adjacent to what I’m best at and love most vs. work that is in my Zone of Genius, and if so…what type of work is closer to my Zone of Genius?

3.      Are there aspects of my job or career that I love and excel at, and if so, can I job sculpt my current role to include more of those or do I need to look at a different role/career for that?

4.      What’s my next step after exploring these questions?

Getting clear on the above can help you make a wise decision, like clients who—with some guidance—were able to do, including:

🚶🏽‍➡️Job sculpt their current role to fit more of what they loved and exceled at (after being sure they had to leave their job to do work they loved)

🚶🏽‍➡️Stay in a teaching job they originally thought they couldn’t tolerate for another year, and not only rekindled their love of the profession, but went from getting a bad review the previous year to getting accolades from their supervisor. For them, they just needed an “attitude adjustment.”

🚶🏽‍➡️Recognize that they actually did appreciate where they worked and were able to see leadership in a more empathetic light (vs. seeing leadership as uncaring and not compensating them fairly) and realizing the things that were causing growing resentment weren’t being rationally assessed.

Note: the handsome boy in the picture is Merlin. While he’s not actually an emotional support dog, his side eye reminded me of the internet meme, so I had him star in this pic.
